One Family. Many Islands. – What It Really Means
When Susan, co-founder of Nesian Kulture, first spoke the words “One Family. Many Islands.” it wasn’t just a catchy line for a brand. It came from her life experience.
Susan is Tongan. She grew up in Australia at a time when Pacific Islanders weren’t always seen or recognised. She married Feeros, who is Lebanese, and together they built Nesian Kulture to give Islanders a voice, an identity, and a movement that could be worn and carried with honour.
This tagline came from Susan’s heart. She had always noticed that while every island has its own culture, language, and customs, Islanders live by the same foundation: respect. And no matter where you are from in the Pacific — Polynesia, Micronesia, or Melanesia — that respect makes us one family.
Different Islands, Same Way of Life
Respect is the heartbeat of every Pacific island culture. Respect for our elders. Respect for the land and sea that provide for us. Respect for the family name we carry.
Whether you grew up in a Samoan, Tongan, Vanuatu or a Fijian village — the way we greet each other, the way we share food, the way we gather as family is the same. We might sing different songs or prepare different dishes, but the spirit behind it all is one: honour those before you, uplift those around you.
That’s why Susan chose these words. Because she saw that the differences in culture weren’t walls dividing us — they were colours that, when woven together, make one strong mat.
Wearing the Message
When our people put on Nesian Kulture, they aren’t just repping their own flag — they’re repping all of us.
We’ve had customers tell us:
-
“I’m Fijian, but when I wear the NK tee with Polynesian and Melanesian flags, I feel like I’m showing honour to my cousins too.”
-
“It reminds me that even though we live oceans apart, our values are the same.”
That’s the essence of One Family. Many Islands. You can stand firm in your own culture while honouring the others.
Why It Matters Today
Too often, the world looks at Pacific Islanders as small, as separate, as divided into little islands on a map. But when we stand together — when we see ourselves as one family — we become powerful. We become visible.
This tagline is not just about clothes. It’s about identity. It’s about reminding every Islander, young or old, that they belong to something bigger than themselves.
Our Promise
Nesian Kulture will always stand by these words. Every drop, every design, every story we share will carry that truth:
We may be different in culture. But we are the same in way of life.
And that way of life is built on respect.
Because at the end of the day, we are One Family. Many Islands.
This movement started with Susan and Feeros’ family, but it continues with yours. Wear the message. Share the honour. Carry the respect.
